EAN-13 / EAN-8 / Code 128

Barcodes with your own logo, print-ready as labels

Create EAN-13, EAN-8 and Code 128 with your logo inside, and print them as a finished label sheet. Every code is decoded back before export. If it fails, there is no export.

No sign-up, no watermark

This code is real. It was generated with the same tool while this page was built, and decoded back.

Why make your own label?

Seven reasons people gave us for putting a motif inside the code. Each one comes with a real code, generated while this page was built and read back by two decoders. No motif changes a bar width.

People recognise pictures, not digits

The motif sits above the scan band and never touches a bar width, so 13 digits turn into a mark you can spot from the other end of the aisle.

Two products, two symbols

Anyone sorting or pricing stock tells two motifs apart at a glance, while two numbers only differ somewhere inside 13 digits. This is not an accessibility certificate. The only claim here is the one you can check above: two different pictures, both codes read back.

One number, two designs

Same GTIN, two designs: of the 21 labels on the A4 sheet, one carries the other motif, and the till reads 4006381333931 either way. How rare the winning motif is depends only on how many you print — this tool counts nothing, manages no tickets and knows nothing about your prize draw.

Your own mark, printed in

Instead of a library shape you upload your own file, and a line drawing is thickened into a solid silhouette that only ever works above the scan band.

One product, one sheet, one afternoon

A short run does not pay for a print shop: you need your GTIN, a pack of label sheets from the stationer and this page — on small packaging as EAN-8, 8 digits instead of 13, here 96385074.

EAN-8 with the “Blossom” motif

No GS1 number needed

Code 128 carries free text rather than a GTIN, here BARVIO-2026, so a code made purely for fun costs you nothing. Retail is the one place where a real GTIN is unavoidable.

A jar that looks shop-bought

Homemade, with a proper code and a motif of your own, it gives better than it would plain — you still cannot sell it that way, because that needs a GTIN of your own.

Wait for the check

Two decoders read the code back: @zxing/library and our own EAN decoder, sharing not one line of code with it. If both return the same number the export unlocks, otherwise it stays closed.

Start with your own number

What you can check yourself

No customer logos, no star ratings, no number we cannot back up. This instead.

Two independent decoders

@zxing/library and our own EAN decoder, sharing not one line of code with it read every code back before export, at three sizes and again with simulated print blur. No read-back, no export.

1890 automated tests

Geometry, colour rules, check digits, quiet zones, label grids. The number is not typed in by hand: the test suite writes it here itself after every green run.

No data transfer

There is no server. No article number and no logo leaves your device. That is not a promise, it is how the thing is built.

Dimensions to GS1

Module widths, quiet zones and bar heights from the standard. Quiet zones are checked geometrically and contrast is measured in the red channel, because that is how laser scanners see.

No sign-up, no watermark

No account, no email, and no logo of ours on your label.

And what it is not

This software check is not a verification to ISO/IEC 15416. It does not replace measurement with calibrated hardware. For retail goods please use a hardware verifier or verification by GS1.

The other generators are free too. Just not checked.

The difference is not the price. It is what happens before the download.

No read-back, no export

Every code is read back at three sizes and again with simulated print blur, by two decoders that know nothing of each other. If one fails, the download stays shut.

Your logo in the code, no side effects

The motif only acts above a locked scan band and never changes a bar width. A line drawing is turned into a solid silhouette automatically.

Print-ready in millimetres, not pixels

11 formats from Avery, Herma, Brother and Zebra, with an allowance for your printer's offset and for partly used sheets. What is 63.50 mm wide here is 63.50 mm wide on paper.

Says no when the answer is no

Red bars, a label that is too small, a wrong check digit: none of it is corrected quietly. The tool names the reason and leaves the decision to you.

Three industries, three real labels

Rendered by the same generator you are about to use. No stock photos, no mock-ups, every label read back.

Generate a barcode and a label

Four cards. Set things on the left, see the result on the right at once.

Set the code

Done

Type and number. The type decides which characters are allowed, the check digit is validated as you type.

Design it

DoneOptional

Motif or your own logo, colour and height. Everything acts above the scan band, never on the bar widths.

Motif from the library

Every shape is freely licensed and free for commercial use. A motif only acts above the scan band and never changes a bar width. After every change the check runs again.

Your own logo

SVG, PNG, JPG, AVIF or WebP. SVG gives the best result, because the outline is already in the file. The file does not leave your browser.

Bar colour

Red, orange and yellow are blocked. Laser scanners work at 660 nanometres and do not see those colours.

Choose the label

DoneOptional

Format, orientation and layout. The format fixes every measurement. Without a label you keep the bare code.

Orientation

Printing the same label sideways costs nothing and often gives a much larger motif.

Label sheet

No printer is accurate to a tenth of a millimetre. Print one test sheet, measure the deviation, enter it here.

21 labels on 1 sheets of 21 each, 0 places stay empty.

Before your first larger print run

Print one sheet as a proof and scan it with the device that will be used later. The check here grades a file. It does not know your printer, your paper or your scanner, and that is exactly where the faults appear that a file cannot show.

Barvio is provided free of charge and without warranty. Liability for damage arising from use, such as an unusable print run, is excluded as far as the law allows.

The rules we keep

These rules are not adjustable. They are the reason a designed code still scans here.

  • Bar widths are never altered. Only bar height is designable.
  • A continuous scan band at the bottom stays fully covered, at least 60 percent of nominal height.
  • Quiet zones stay clear, checked geometrically rather than by eye.
  • The bar colour must be dark, with at least 60 percent contrast in the red channel.
  • The check digit is always validated. This tool never creates GTINs of its own.

Questions people actually ask

Can I put a logo inside an EAN-13?

Yes, as long as it never touches a bar width and a continuous scan band stays clear at the bottom. That is exactly how Barvio works: the motif only acts above a locked band of at least 60 percent of nominal height, and every code is read back afterwards.

Why will my barcode not scan?

Usually one of four reasons: quiet zones too narrow, too little contrast, altered bar widths or a wrong check digit. Red, orange and yellow bars are invisible to laser scanners. Barvio checks all four before export and tells you which one failed.

What size does an EAN-13 have to be?

At 100 percent an EAN-13 including quiet zones measures 37.29 by 26.26 millimetres. Anything from 80 to 200 percent of that is allowed, so 29.83 to 74.58 millimetres wide. The quiet zones on the left and right are part of the code and must not be trimmed.

Can I create EAN codes myself?

Yes, the barcode. The number inside it has to be yours: GTINs are issued by GS1, and for retail there is no way around that. Barvio never invents numbers. It validates the check digit of the number you enter and prints exactly that.

Why are red bars blocked?

Because laser scanners read at around 660 nanometres, and at that wavelength red looks like white. To the scanner a red bar is not faint, it is absent. The same goes for orange and yellow. Barvio therefore measures contrast in the red channel and requires at least 60 percent.

Does the check replace ISO/IEC 15416 verification?

No. Barvio checks a file. The standard grades a printed specimen under defined lighting with calibrated optics. For retail goods you also need a hardware verifier or verification by GS1.

What does Barvio cost?

Nothing. Codes, logo, verification and label sheets are free, commercial use included, with no account and no watermark. If that ever changes, you will read it here first.
